Surprise! The Mayor calls a Council Study Session to talk TURNPIKES
To figure out what the CoN should ask for when OTA destroys our city
You heard it correctly. On Friday, The City of Norman *announced* a Council Study Session to be held this TUESDAY at 5:30 pm in the Executive Conference Room at City Hall at 201 West Gray to have a …..
“discussion regarding the City of Norman’s infrastructure needs related to the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s Access program.”
Did he give up? Why is he holding a study session to figure out what the City of Norman needs to ask the OTA for during construction of the turnpike?
Why call one NOW with only 4 days notice?
Is this in response to the overwhelming outpouring of support for the muncipal water supply pollution resolution that Ward 5 Council Member Michael Nash put forward?
He HATES our existing resolution that was written before he got into office. He keeps spouting off that the OTA won’t talk with him because of this existing resolution.
Newsflash.
The OTA won’t talk with him unless they are compelled by LAW to talk with him because they don’t give TWO HOOTS about the City of Norman.
They have screwed all the other municipalities they’ve paved over in the last 77 years with empty promises, hazardous pollution from stormwater runoff, major unmitigated county roadway damage during construction and excessive flooding along their tollroads. I’m not sure why the City of Norman thinks they will be treated any differently.
Our resolution sets the City up for all sorts of power plays when the OTA shows their true colors and refuses to do ANYTHING the City asks them to do. When the OTA pollutes our streams, watershed and drinking water. When the OTA destroys our rural land for NOTHING other than perpetual debt payments enriching the pockets of a few and saddling generations with awful transportation solutions and unfunded infrastructure maintenance liabilities. With the resolution, we can show that we put them on notice - and that a legal action is justified.
Let’s GO!!!!
You can’t do anything about the national sh&*show going on right now. You CAN focus your energies where they will be most beneficial and right now, we need you in the room on Tuesday at 5:30pm.
I realize we have a community dinner planned at Das Boot Camp at the same time, but come and eat an early dinner at 4 pm and then walk a few blocks down the road to sit in on this Council Study Session to show the City that we don’t want ANY TURNPIKES.
